Mind the Gap

January 8, 2015

There is untapped magic in the gaps between gadgets. As devices multiply, the focus on the design of individual screens now shifts to designing the interactions between them. On January 15 at 7:00pm in the URBN Annex Screening Room (3401 Filbert Street), the Digital Media department will host guest speaker Josh Clark for a lecture entitled “Mind the Gap: Designing the Space Between Devices.” A multi-device designer whose clients include AOL, Time Inc., eBay, O'Reilly Media and many others, Clark will address the creation of web and app experiences that share control among multiple devices, designing not only for screens but for sensors. He will discuss how to use the technology that already exists in our pockets, handbags, and living rooms.

In addition to multi-device design, Clark specializes in strategy and user experience and is the author of four books, including Tapworthy: Designing Great iPhone Apps and the forthcoming Designing for Touch. He is the founder of Global Moxie, which offers design services, strategic consulting, and training to help creative organizations build exceptional interfaces for apps, websites and connected devices.

Clark was previously a producer of national PBS programs at Boston's WGBH, and in 1996, he created the uber-popular "Couch-to-5K" (C25K) running program, which has helped millions of skeptical would-be exercisers take up jogging. His motto is the same for fitness as it is for software user experience: “no pain, no pain.” For more information about the lecture, please contact Professor Troy Finamore at troy.finamore@drexel.edu.
