ARFAA Lecture: Nina Rappaport

April 4, 2014 — The Department of Architecture & Interiors will host a free-to-the-public presentation by accomplished critic, curator, and historian Nina Rappaport on Thursday, April 10 at 6:30 pm at the Mandell Theater (33rd & Chestnut Streets). Entitled “Deep Decoration/New Structural Design,” the presentation is part of the Department’s ARFAA Lecture Series.

Rappaport is an important presence in contemporary architecture, particularly known for her research on factory design, industrial landscapes and the crucial role of engineers in the creation of innovative modern architecture. She serves as publications director at the Yale School of Architecture, where she edits the bi-annual magazine Contrasts and other publications. She also co-edited the book Ezra Stoller: Photographer (2012), and has written numerous essays for publications such as Acadia, Architectural Record, Perspecta, and Metropolis. Rappaport directs the project "Vertical Urban Factory," which features innovations of significant factory buildings from the turn of the 20th century to the present and is sponsored along with the New York Foundation for the Arts.
