World Premiere: Kun-Yang Lins’ Be/Longing

March 21, 2014 — One of the country’s foremost contemporary Asian-American dance companies, Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers will open its 2014 home season with the world premiere of Be/Longing: Light/Shadow at Drexel’s Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Sts.) on Friday, March 21, 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 22, 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Exploring individual and collective journeys, Be/Longing is a multidisciplinary piece created in collaboration with master puppet artist and sculptor, Hua Hua Zhang, mandala artist Tatiana Hassan, and award-winning composer Cory Neale.

Described as “the pinnacle of Philadelphia’s outstanding dance community” (Philadelphia Inquirer), Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers celebrates the integration of body, mind and spirit and invites viewers to join in a process of self-discovery. Artistic Director Lin’s choreography combines contemplative practices and philosophies of Asian origin with Western contemporary dance techniques and improvisation methods. Be/Longing weaves myriad threads of his international movement research conducted over the past few years.
