Gutenberg! The Musical! Opens May 30

May 30, 2013

Drexel University’s Entertainment & Arts Management (EAM) program presents the hilarious two-man musical spoof Gutenberg! The Musical!  by Scott Brown and Anthony King opening May 30, 8 p.m. at the URBN Center Black Box Theater at 3401 Filbert Street, running through June 1 (8:00 pm each night). Tickets are $5 for students & $10 for general audiences and available at the door or by email reservation to dugutenberg@gmail.com. EAM seniors Dan Toll & Justin Romeo are producing the show as their capstone project.

The action centers around Doug Simon and Bud Davenport, authors of a big, splashy new musical about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. In need of support they perform a backers’ audition for some of the biggest producers in New York. They have no actors, no sets, and no costumes. But Bud & Doug can sing, dance and most importantly, they have HATS!

Developed by Scott Brown and Anthony King at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYC, this two-man musical spoof puts you right in the action of these two aspiring playwrights trying to get their show to Broadway.

Demonstrating the culmination of their undergraduate studies, Drexel seniors Dan Toll & Justin Romeo are also serving as the play’s director and production manager, respectively. The two have worn all the hats of a theatre company over the past fourteen months getting this production off the ground. Gutenberg! The Musical! will be the first musical and first fully student-produced show in the brand new URBN Center Annex at Drexel University.

“A smashing success! Scott Brown and Anthony King are superb comic writers." – NY Times
