Director, Kal & Lucille Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies
POSTING SUMMARY: The Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is seeking a Director for The Rudman Institute -- an energetic, entrepreneurial and experienced executive from the cable, television or other media. Experience in education is a strong plus, but not an absolute requirement.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of 9 years mid to high-level industry experience.
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred.
- Substantial experience in managing the development and production of creative content.
- The successful candidate will have had both direct hands-on and executive responsibilities.
- Management experience at a television or cable network, production company or studio, or new media venture with some expertise in the distribution, legal, financial and marketing functions of such a concern.
- The ability to organize and motivate student participation in content creation and media entrepreneurship.
- Teaching experience at the university level (preferred but not essential).
- The skills and vision to build the Institute and to represent its work within the University and beyond.
- Working experience and familiarity with new media technologies.
- Self-starting, hard-working individual who can work independently.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Jump-starting student television production for broadcast on DUTV
- Integrating students into the management, programming and promotion of DUTV
- Presenting lectures, screenings, conferences and symposiums with top industry professionals to showcase creative work, and to illuminate production, business, marketing and distribution issues
- Teaching Production, Programming and/or Media Marketing courses Encouraging and fostering innovative means to distribute and promote media content via new technologies
- Fostering student entrepreneurship and opportunities to connect students to industry leaders
SUPPLEMENTAL POSTING INFORMATION: At Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts & Design we teach hard-working and talented young people to make film and video, to write scripts, to produce music, to create animation and video games, and to manage in all of these fields. We also teach students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in these demanding and competitive fields.
The Westphal College oversees a television and radio station, television and music studios, a student-run record label with national distribution, and a 400-seat theater. The Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies is central to our efforts to use these resources to create unique, innovative and high profile academic programs that graduate creative and industry leaders.
The Rudman Institute is the umbrella organization for the college's television station (DUTV) and production facilities (The Paul F. Harron studios). The Institute Director will work collaboratively with the Westphal College's academic programs to foster new course offerings, to enhance student production of creative content, and to create practical learning and marketing opportunities for the distribution of that content.
The Rudman Institute will continue to organize high profile programmatic events, activities and connections to the entertainment industry to further our students' pursuit of their careers. We are also keenly interested in the creative, business, and technical issues that are producing unprecedented growth and change within these fields.
