Parking and Transportation

Drexel’s campus is located in the University City section of Philadelphia, west of the Schuykill River between 32nd and 36th Streets and Chestnut and Spring Garden. The campus and city are easily accessible by public transportation that includes bus, trolley, and subway services. All public transportation is part of the SEPTA system (Southeastern Pennsylvania Public Transportation Association), with maps and guides available here.

As in most larger cities, parking can be a challenge. For those of you who are flying to Philadelphia as Summer Scholars for the Institute, there is no need for an automobile. We will provide transportation for all field trips, and public transportation or walking can get you to many places on weekends to take advantage of the city’s location and proximity to the Philadelphia Museum of art, the Barnes Collection, Old City sites. There is inexpensive bus service to and from New York, and there are public transportation options for places like Winterthur as well.

For those of you traveling by car, there is available metered parking and some free parking, but it might not be available near to the University housing where you’ll be staying. The University has a garage located on Market Street between 33rd and 34th Streets, with the entry and exit just behind Market on Ludlow Street. Information on the lot is provided below.

There are also some surface lots that may be able to offer spaces, but the number and location of these spaces won’t be known until sometime in late June. At that time we can contact summer scholars who wish to take advantage of any of these open lot spaces.

The Drexel Garage is operated by the Drexel Parking Services Office and offers at one location overnight security with in a building that gets locked down every evening, with self-serve daily parking using the parking kiosk.
