Derek C. Hachkowski
With 11 years of professional experience in the Philadelphia Theater community, Derek has joined Drexel University Theater as the Production Manager, Scene Shop Foreman, and adjunct. While at Drexel he has helped the Mandell Theater technical director construct and install all the main stage theater productions as well as training and mentoring the theater production students in various aspects of theater production including audio, lighting, video, rigging, and scenery. While at Drexel he has been the scenic designer for 2 productions: Reefer Madness and Our Town. Over the last 2 years he has also spent many hours helping with the design and theater consultation of the new Black Box Theater that is under construction as part of the new Urban Center for the Westphal Collage.
Before coming to Drexel, Derek was a freelance theater technician in many of the theaters in Philadelphia as well as on staff at the Prince Music Theater for over 7 years, 5 of which as the Master Electrician/Technical Director. Other places he has worked include the Walnut Street Theater, the Wilma Theater, Philadelphia Theater Company, Azuka Theater, Interact, Temple University Theater, the Arden, Hidden City Philadelphia, among others. Today he still plays an active part of technical theater in the Philadelphia Professional Theater community still freelancing. He currently is the Master Electrician for 1812 Productions preforming at the 100 year old historic Plays & Players Theater, serves as the Production Technical Coordinator for the Curtis Institute of Music Opera Theater performing at the Prince Music Theater, and the Production Manager/Technical Director for the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival which supports local artists, and brings the world’s newest and most cutting-edge cultural experiences to the city during the 16 day festival every summer.
