For one exciting week, come live on our campus and explore “hands-on” the fields of Fashion Merchandising. You will attend a carefully designed curriculum consisting of lessons, activities, and field trips. The experience is taught by the highly regarded Fashion Merchandising Program. Faculty members all have extensive experience in various aspects of the fashion industry. You will work individually and in teams to complete a variety of projects. This unique opportunity will immerse you in the world of fashion while offering you a preview of the college experience. During your stay, visit some of Philadelphia's top cultural attractions, eat at several Philly restaurants, and visit corporate headquarters of fashion companies in the Philadelphia area. Best of all, you will get to know Drexel and the Westphal College experience.

Merchandising: Re-imagining the business of Fashion
Study the journey of fashion products from the designer’s mind to the final purchase. Learn the roles of buyers, product developers, marketing professionals, fashion writers, event planners, and retail managers who make the business of Fashion happen. During your week at Drexel, you will explore the relationship between design, development, merchandising and marketing. Learn about a dynamic profession which applies business knowledge in conjunction with an aesthetic view point.
At the end of the program you will:
- Have a clear overview of the fashion industry, its language and skills required for success
- Understand product development, manufacturing and merchandising
- Explore career opportunities and begin your resume development
- Gain direct exposure to the key components within the fashion industry
- Experience the innovative and dynamic learning environment of Drexel University
Dynamic Lessons: Drexel’s experienced faculty along with industry professionals will engage in the exciting world of fashion from history and inspiration to product creation and manufacturing to marketing and retailing.
Industry Visits: We will tour studios, corporate headquarters and retailers in New York and Philadelphia meeting leaders in the business of fashion.
Cultural Events: We will visit influential galleries, restaurants and museums to develop your global mindset as an aspiring fashion industry professional.
Personal Portfolio: You will create a comprehensive journal based on the curriculum and experiences from the one week program.
Final Venture: In teams you will collaborate and create an innovative project.
Eligibility: We welcome high school students who are at least 16 years of age who have completed their sophomore year by July, prior to the start of the program.
Faculty: Students will be taught by Drexel faculty from the Merchandising major at the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design. The faculty will be assisted by teaching assistants all of whom will spend one-on-one time with every student.
Housing & Meals: Students will live together in a Drexel Residence Hall with separate accommodations for females and males. We are located in University City, adjacent to Center City Philadelphia and many cultural sites. We have around-the-clock supervision including faculty, teaching and resident assistants. Students will also enjoy access to the Drexel Library and athletic facilities. Meals will be provided through Drexel Dining Services as well as through caterers for field trips.
What will you bring home with you: Students who successfully complete the 1-week program will receive a program certificate from Drexel University’s Design Department , presented at the student exhibition. You will also take away a portfolio ready final project along with career insights and happy memories.
Registration and Payment: You may apply by completing the online application, submitting a copy of your high school transcript, and your 300 word personal statement of interest. Transcripts can be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or sent by mail to the address below.
A deposit of $300 is required with your application. Your deposit will be returned if you are not accepted into the program. Upon acceptance, your deposit is nonrefundable. The balance of $1,500 must be paid by June 22, 2018. A final balance payment form will be provided. No refunds will be made once the program begins. How soon will you hear from us? All applications will be reviewed as we receive them and applicants will be notified within 3 weeks from receipt. Admissions decisions are based upon academic preparation and commitment to explore design. We will limit the program to approximately 16 students per concentration. We will mail an acceptance letter and an information package to you and your family with additional program information, and of course, more forms to complete. Enrollment is limited and is available on a first-come, first-serve basis upon review and acceptance of the application.
Tuition: The tuition of $1,800.00 covers everything, including:
- Supervised accommodations in residence halls
- Three meals a day
- Classes, seminars, and lectures
- Field trips, museums and office tours
- Use of computer resources, library, and athletic facilities
- Recreational field trips and social events
- Cultural events and social events
- Select Supplies and Materials: We will also provide a list of items students should bring with them
Tuition does not include student health care coverage. All students must provide proof of insurance in order to enroll in the session (form will be provided).
