Summer Programs for High School Students

Below you can find information about all of the Westphal College's summer educational opportunities.

Discovering Architecture

This is a two-week residential program designed to expose talented and motivated high school students to a range of career possibilities in the field of architecture. You'll attend classes taught by Drexel faculty members in studios and computer labs used by Drexel architecture students. You'll go on field trips to significant architectural sites, see a project under construction, visit architecture firms, hear lectures by distinguished speakers, and learn about green design. In addition, while working closely with an instructor, you'll try your hand at architectural design, and present your work to a professional jury.

Eligibility: High school students at least 16 years of age who have completed their junior year by the start of the program are welcome to apply. The program is held during the month of July.

Exploring Design & Merchandising and Fashion Design

For two exciting weeks, come live on our campus and explore “hands-on” the fields of Fashion Design or Design & Merchandising. You will attend classes taught by Drexel faculty in the studios and labs used by design students. Each program includes sketching and designing to produce a portfolio-ready project by the end of your two weeks. Field trips provide an insider's look at retailers, design boutiques, and product design firms to discover where fashion, product and merchandising meet. You'll visit some of Philadelphia's top cultural attractions, eat at several Philly restaurants, and attend at least one music or theater event. Best of all, you will get to know Drexel and the Westphal College experience.


Eligibility: We welcome motivated high school students who are at least 16 years of age and who have completed their sophomore or junior years of high school by the start of the program. We encourage anyone with is excited about design to apply and we limit the program to 16 Fashion Design and 16 Design & Merchandising students.

Discovering Interior Design

This is a two-week residential program designed to expose talented and motivated high school students to a range of career possibilities in the field of interior design. You'll attend classes taught by Drexel faculty members in studios and computer labs used by Drexel interior design students. You'll go on field trips to significant architectural sites, see a project under construction, visit interior design firms, hear lectures by distinguished speakers, and learn about green design. In addition, while working closely with an instructor, you'll try your hand at designing a retail store and present your work to a professional jury.

Eligibility: High school students at least 16 years of age who have completed their junior year by the start of the program are welcome to apply. The program is held during the month of July.

Music Industry

Our summer program for is designed to introduce you to the music industry as a whole—through a one week intensive workshop of audio technology and business. The courses offered are based upon the degree curriculum and are taught by our faculty of industry professionals. Through the classroom, hands-on studio experience in our recording lab facilities, performance opportunities, lectures, and guest speakers, you will gain valuable insight into, and practical knowledge of, this dynamic field. You’ll get an insider’s view into the most current issues in the music industry.

Eligibility: We welcome motivated high school students who are at least 16 years of age and who have completed their sophomore or junior years of high school by the start of the program.
