Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track), Product Design

Job Overview:

Drexel University’s Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design is seeking qualified applicants for a full time tenure track faculty member of Product Design beginning September 1, 2013. Rank at appointment will be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications:

The applicant should possess a minimum of an MFA or equivalent in Product Design or a related field with a demonstrated body of accomplishments in multidisciplinary product development and/or design research. Emphasis during the selection process will be upon applicants who can provide examples of successful teaching outcomes, as well as applied projects or research that demonstrate a strong collaborative component. Professional activity and achievement in the form of awards or publications as well industry experience will be beneficial to selection. It is expected that the successful candidate will achieve a highly productive research, scholarship, or creative work agenda, funded either through government agencies or through industry, and will have the ability to collaborate across Drexel schools and colleges. Verbal and visual acuity is essential.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach in the undergraduate program.
  • Establish a record of creative activity, scholarship and/or design research relative to the program.
  • Contribute to the development of program initiatives that foster research and potential collaborative projects for students and external industry partners.
  • Create and conduct product design projects that foster collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning within the university and surrounding communities.
  • Contribute to the future development of a trans-disciplinary design graduate program.
  • Serve on various program, college, and university committees.
