David Schneider, Professor of Oboe at Drexel University’s Westphal College of Media Arts and Design and The College of New Jersey, is currently Principal Oboe with Peter Nero and the Philly Pops, a regular substitute with The Philadelphia Orchestra and is a very active freelance musician in the PA-NJ-DEL region. Previous professional experience includes principal Oboe with the Opera Company of Philadelphia Orchestra for 30 years, substitute Principal Second Oboe with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and as well as Principal Oboe with the Mozart Society of Philadelphia, Utah Festival Opera Company, Princeton Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, and the Delaware, Reading, and Lancaster Symphony Orchestras. Mr. Schneider has toured Europe with The Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Wolfgang Sawallisch, as well as with the Concerto Soloists of Philadelphia.
Highlights of Mr. Schneider’s commercial experience include touring with Frank Sinatra, recording and performing with Tony Bennett, recording with Lou Rawls and Johnny Mathis, numerous recordings for The Sound of Philadelphia (TSOP) and touring with Sarah McLaughlin. In addition, Mr. Schneider is a founding member of The Fairmount Woodwind Quintet.
Mr. Schneider has taught at Rowen University, Rutgers University and Settlement Music School in Philadelphia. He gives extensive oboe reed-making clinics and performance clinics both in the US and Europe and maintains a full private studio in Philadelphia.
