Adjunct Assistant Professor

Ellen Forman Dance Studio Office, Mandell Theater Lobby 1032

KC Chun-Manning received her MFA in Dance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004, in conjunction with her AmSAT  certification as an Alexander Technique teacher.  Her professional performing credits include the choreography of such artists as kim olson/sweet edge, Maedée Duprès, Sara Hook, Cynthia Oliver and Susan Rethorst. She serves on the dance faculty at Drexel and Temple Universities, as well as at the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training teaching the Alexander Technique. Guest artist and speaking positions include Bryn Mawr College, West Chester University, nEW Festival, Trinity College, Denver University, Bucknell University, the Cancer Support Center of Philadelphia and for breast-feeding moms at the North Suburban Hospital in Colorado.

Since 2005, Fresh Blood has been the repository for KC Chun-Manning’s artistic collaboration with Jennifer Schmermund, who shared a mutual penchant for mischievous whimsy, interplay and mining the simultaneously untamed and heroic stories we carry within.  Preserving this collaborative sensibility, Fresh Blood continued with Ms. Chun-Manning from Brooklyn to Colorado to now Philadelphia, where the work more specifically explores the body as an ever shifting continuum of entanglement, flight, rebound and interconnectivity with others.

These inquiries into how the stories we carry manifest themselves in the choices we make led to her most recent collaboration with the Pasión y Arte Flamenco Co. for the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) in 2013 at the Fleisher Art Memorial, as well as her solo research project, Residue, that invited four choreographers to find a methodology of transmitting the “grit” of who they are onto her body, and ultimately create a new work.  These solos were presented at Bucknell University, Trinity College, and at Spoke the Hub Dancing.  Additionally, Fresh Blood has been produced at such venues as the Cool New York Dance Festival, Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Aspen Dance Connection, the Packing House Center for the Arts, the Dairy Center for the Arts, the Brooklyn Arts Exchange, the Merce Cunningham Studio and the DUMBO Dance Festival.
