Richardson is an architect and owner of Axis Architecture, a small practice in Kansas City, MO., designing a wide variety of residential and commercial projects. She also owns and manages a small real estate rental business. She is a graduate of Cornell University. Before forming her practice, her past experience included working for Skidmore Owings and Merrill in San Francisco, where she coordinated large scale projects, including the Bank of America Technology Center in Concord, Calif., and the Regent Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. At HOK in San Francisco, she coordinated the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C., and the Sun Microsystems campus in Newark, Calif.
As a result of working as an unintentional pioneer in a field where women are extremely under-represented, Richardson is also very concerned with women’s rights, and is especially concerned with women participating fully in the economic and political realms. She has served as a board member with the Missouri Women’s Leadership Coalition, a group dedicated to recruiting and training progressive women to run for office, and later as a part-time Training Director with MWLC. Richardson has also served on the board of the Missouri Progressive Vote Coalition, the Chair of the MO State Women’s Political Caucus, and as a local and state board member of AAUW. She has recently agreed to serve as Treasurer of a new National Women’s Political Caucus endowment.
