PEMBERTON, Ed.D., serves as the Provost and vice President of Academic Affairs, Dickinson State University in Dickinson, North Dakota. Previously, Pemberton was Interim Dean of the Graduate School and Professor of Educational Leadership at Idaho State University (ISU). Prior to that, she served for over a decade as an intercollegiate athletic administrator. Dr. Pemberton has published and presented locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally on Title IX and gender equity in school sport. Her academic record of scholarship includes 2 externally published books (2002-NE University Press/2012 Sense Publishers), two academic manuals, close to 30 refereed and/or limited review journal/magazine publications and proceedings, a similar number of invited publications, over 40 regional/national/ international presentations, and over 100 local/university and community presentations.
Most recently Dr. Pemberton spent the 2011-2012 academic year in the Republic of Malta, as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar, teaching at the University of Malta.
She is the author of the 2002 publication, More Than a Game: One Woman’s Fight for Gender Equity in Sport; and Getting There: Women's Journey's to and through Educational Attainment (2012). More than a Game is autobiographical, and chronicles the struggle for Title IX compliance and gender equity in school sport from 1992 through 1998 at a small liberal arts college in Oregon. More Than a Game was honored with the Phi Kappa Phi Bookshelf Award in October 2002, and has received a number of positive reviews (Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport, Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal, Booklist and Choice). Getting There chronicles the lived experience/educational journeys of women who found themselves moving forward together pursuing doctoral degrees in Educational Leadership.
