Description: In celebration of Women's Equality Day, commemorating the ratification of the 19th Amendment in 1920 giving women in the U.S. the right to vote and calling attention to women's continuing struggle for full equality, the Women's Center invites new students and other members of our campus community to join us for a discussion with members of the League of Women Voters of McDonough County about opportunities for involvement in the League's activities, and well as opportunities for involvement in the Women's Center and its affiliated student organizations. LWVMC members will be available to do voter registration (bring two forms of ID, one with current address).

Women Organized to Resist and Defend (WORD)- Women's Equality Day

 Description: On August 23-26, Women Organized to Resist and Defend (WORD) is calling for nationwide demonstrations in honor of Women's Equality Day to to stop the right-wing attacks targeting women’s rights and the rights of all oppressed people. On the East Coast, WORD is mobilizing a contingent to participate in the march and rally commemorating the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington in Washington, D.C.

Celebrate Women’s Equality Day 2013: A Night in Herstory!

Description: Join the West Hollywood Women's Advisory Board for a special celebration commemorating both the Board’s twenty years of service to the West Hollywood community and the 93rd anniversary of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote in the United States. The program will feature special guest speakers, a historical digital installation, film shorts and a reception. In addition, there will be a special performance from Helen Reddy of her song “I Am Woman.” Reddy will also serve as the keynote speaker for the evening. A representative from the United States Post Office, artist Nicolosi and Helen Reddy will unveil the pictorial commemorative stamp and limited cache envelope which will be available for purchase with their autographs.

In conjunction with Women’s Equality Day there will be a preview and unveiling event of a new United States Post Office stamp featuring Helen Reddy at 10 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2013 in the lobby at West Hollywood City Hall, 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard. Both Reddy and the stamp’s designer Nicolosi will be in attendance to receive proclamations from the City, and West Hollywood Mayor Abbe Land will announce that August 26 will officially be declared Helen Reddy Day in West Hollywood. The Women's Advisory Board (WAB) was created on December 7, 1992, and advises the City Council on policies and issues pertaining to women, advocates on behalf of women's rights, and provides programming addressing women's concerns.
