On October 3, several members of the Vision 2020 national office team, as well as many delegates and allies, attended the annual Pennsylvania Conference for Women in Philadelphia. With keynotes by Michelle Obama and Shonda Rhimes, it was no surprise that 12,000+ people attended and thousands more watched online.

Here are nine of my favorite quotes from this year's #PennWomen speakers:

“Shame on us if we sit by and let an imposter talk us down. If we don’t speak up, our voices are never involved in the process of problem solving, and we don’t get to the right answers. I am constantly telling young women to speak up and talk. Don’t waste your seat at the table. If you’re scared to use your voice, then you have to get up and let someone else in there who’s going to use it.” –Michelle Obama

“How we name something dictates how we deal with it. Summon the courage to do the thing you fear. You don’t need confidence, just courage.” – Shonda Rhimes

"If someone says you are too much for them, they are right. Do not dim your light for someone else’s convenience." –Carla Ann Harris

"Happiness is not pleasure. It’s the joy we feel moving toward our potential." –Shawn Achor

"You do not negotiate your worth and your belonging with other people." –Brené Brown

"We think we have to love a girl, but be sure to also respect her and give her power at a very young age.” –Michelle Obama

I belong in any room I am in.” –Shonda Rhimes

"Own your power. It has been given to you; do not waste it. In order to grow your power, give it away. When you empower other people, you magnify and amplify your impact." –Carla Ann Harris

"Your level of belonging can never be greater than your ability to stand on your own." –Brené Brown
