National Goals
Vision 2020 is a national coalition of organizations and individuals united in their commitment to achieve women’s economic and social equality. It was developed by the Institute for Women’s Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine that works with affiliated organizations to advance the issues most important to women. These goals are the result of the October Congress that convened in Philadelphia on October 21-22, 2010.
Vision 2020’s Campaign for Equality will work to achieve the following five goals by the year 2020, when the centennial of women’s right to vote is celebrated:
- To increase the number of women in senior leadership positions
- Advance women's economic security and achieve pay equity
- Promote family-friendly workplace policies
- Educate young people to value gender equality, shared leadership, and civic engagement
- Engage and educate women voters and increase women’s participation in the political process
Vision 2020 National Delegates are implementing State Initiatives across the country to advance these five goals. Learn more about the State Initiatives.
National Goal Implementation Focus
The National Goal Implementation Focus directs State Delegates to leverage their spheres of influence to bring the Vision 2020 message of achieving women’s equality by the year 2020 into the national conversation.
The delegates work on one (or more) national goal(s), engaging women and men in the strategies defined by the Vision 2020 National Office and Thought Leaders.
Delegates accomplish this through their participation in:
- Speaking Engagements
- Delegate Websites
- State Conferences
- serving on Committee(s) working on a compatible goal as a representative of Vision 2020
- Media (social and traditional) engagement

Cindy Felsten and Jan Michelson
IN
Felsten and Michelson are working on all of Vision 2020's five goals to reach parity in this state by 2020. They are working with the Indiana Commission for Women who holds listening sessions around the state and are working on a strategic plan to move across the state on primarily the same issues/goals of Vision 2020 - work place issues, women's health issues, leadership, violence against women, care giving. They are collaborating with all women's organizations and universities, as well as others, who want to be involved in moving forward on these issues.
In 2011, several organizations during International Women's week worked with over 1,000 middle schools, high school and college students educating them to respect the differences between girls and boys and that all can achieve success with hard work. That work will continue again in 2012 during the same week.
Vision 2020 and Indiana's Pay Equity Coalition is working with the State Personnel Department on the Pay Equity Issue.
We are collaborating with Integrating Women Leaders to offer an annual Women's Leadership Conference helping to increase the number of women in senior leadership positions and educating employers about policies that enable men and women to share in family responsibilities, which ultimately strengthen the business' bottom line.
Felsten and Michelson are also collaborating with the Indiana Commission for Women and many women's organizations to encourage women to run for political offices and to offer continuous training as well as staffer training. Training sessions occur in the fall.
