Biography

Jayne is a Navajo woman and justice of the peace of Lake County, Polson, Montana. She was formerly an attorney, Montana State House Representative 2001-2008 and nursing student recruiter for Salish Kootenai College Nursing Department in Pablo, Montana.  She received a JD from the University of Montana School of Law, a MS in Watershed Management/Hydrology from the University of Arizona and BS in Agricultural Industry from Arizona State University.

She served on the Appropriations Committee, Sub-committee for Health and Human Services, State and Tribal Interim Legislative Committee, House Joint Resolution 1 Committee on Mental Health and Legislative Finance Interim Committee.

She is licensed to practice law in Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribal Court, Northern Cheyenne Tribal Court and Blackfeet Tribal Court all in Montana; Coeur d’lene Tribal Court (Idaho); Navajo Nation Tribal District Court (Utah, New Mexico and Arizona).

Jayne volunteers for Jobs For Montana Graduates Foundation, Montana Guardianship Advisory Council, Kicking Horse Job Corps Center in Montana, American Legacy Foundation in the District of Columbia, National Foundation of Women Legislators, A Child is Missing, Inc., National Caucus of Native American State Legislators and is the former chair of the Wellness and Criminal Justice Committee.
