Biography

Elizabeth Dineen served as an attorney for Egan, Flanagan and Cohen, P.C. Previously the chair of the criminal justice department at Bay Path College (a women's college), her focus is on developing students to serve as strong women leaders in the criminal justice field. Throughout the department's curriculum, students are encouraged to engage in an in-depth analysis of women's issues related to the international rule of law and global criminal justice practices.

Before that Elizabeth served for more than 25 years as a supervising assistant district attorney, prosecuting crimes involving sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.

During the course of her legal and academic career she has received numerous professional and community awards, including:

  • Top Women of Law, 2013
  • Massachusetts State Police: Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation, 2009
  • Governor’s Award: Service to the Commonwealth: State House Honoree, 2008
  • U.S. Postal Service: Women's History Award, 2003
  • YWCA: Woman of Achievement Award, 2003
  • Massachusetts Bar Association: Prosecutor of the Year Award, 2003 (first female recipient of this award)

Dineen's Community Service activities include serving on the board of the Women's Fund of Western Massachusetts, Square One Day Care, Hampden County Bar Association, serving a fellow at the Massachusetts Bar Foundation and being on the Appropriations Committee of the town of East Longmeadow, MA (1998 - 2005, including service as Chair)

Dineen lives in East Longmeadow, Massachusetts with her husband, attorney Stephen Spelman, their three children, and their rescue dog, "J.R."
