Student Life Celebrates Welcome Back Week

The Division of Student Life is celebrating the start of the term with Welcome Back Week activities and events from September 20th through September 26th, 2010.  All students should take advantage of the tons of opportunities to meet student organizations, play on carnival rides, learn about campus departments, and enjoy FREE fun, food, and music!

Try-A-Climb

If you don’t know how to climb, we have classes to teach you how to put on a harness and let you climb for an hour.  Free Try-A-Climb classes are every hour on the hour.  Please reserve a time at the climbing wall.  For more information, e-mail Paul Haraf at pah54@drexel.edu.

Headband Making with Sororities

Drexel’s Panhellenic Council would like to invite the entire Drexel community to join sorority members in making headbands!  We’ll be there to talk about sorority recruitment, Greek life, and answer any other questions you may have!  So come out, get some refreshments, and design yourself a new headband to add to your collection!

Combating Domestic Violence

Invisible Children Presents Tony Documentary

Invisible Children, through the creation of awareness and support utilizing documentaries and educational lectures, is a movement seeking to end the conflict in Uganda and stop the abduction of children for use as child soldiers.  The documentary, Tony, will be screened followed by a discussion with Invisible Children representatives and activists.

Come Try BODYJAM.  BODYJAM is the cardio workout where participants enjoy the sensation of dance.  An addictive fusion of the latest dance styles and hottest new sounds puts the emphasis as much on having fun as on breaking a sweat.  Funky instructors teach you to move with attitude through this 55-minutes class.  So grab a friend, get front and center, and get high on the feeling of dance.

Unity Through Diversity

Unity Through Diversity is a collaborative dialogue series.  Come out for a small-group discussion on the   topic for March: What does your gender identity mean to you?  What have you been socialized to think and express in regard to your gender?  How have your thoughts been shaped by the society in which you live?  Participants will share experiences regarding their own gender identity/expression and the ways in which they have been treated or behaved.  Pizza & soda will be served!

Reverend Billy and the Life After Shopping Gospel Choir Stop at Drexel

The Young Alumni Association invites the senior class to join recent graduates for a spring mixer at the Field House in Center City Philadelphia.  Guests will enjoy complimentary drinks from 7:00pm-8:00pm and appetizer specials all night.  Rock cover band “Huge Jackman” will also perform.  And seniors will be able to pick-up their Class of 2011 t-shirt as they kick-off their final term as Drexel students!  This event is free – must be 21 or older to attend.

It’s back … the 3rd annual Flashback Roller Skating Party!  Enjoy “old skool” skating fun with friends and celebrate the beginning of the spring term.  The decades will cover the ‘80s to today, bringing you back to the days of middle school.  Students should wear their best flashback gear and get their groove on.  Students must show a Drexel ID and sign a waiver to rent skates or they can bring their own.

2011 Philly Spring Clean-Up Day

Co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Streets Department and Drexel University
Mayor Nutter has requested Philadelphians to join him in having the largest citywide clean-up event.  Drexel wants to show support and we need your help to make this a success.  We are working with the City to send teams of Drexel students, faculty and staff to specific locations throughout Philadelphia.  Drexel will provide shuttle service, t-shirts and refreshments for their volunteers.  Shuttles will depart at 8:45am from the Recreation Center and return at approximately 2:00pm.  To register, e-mail citycleanup@drexel.edu.  For more information on the Philadelphia Clean-Up you can visit: http://www.philadelphiastreets.com/philly-spring-cleanup.aspx
