Orientation Staff Recruitment and Selection

The Office of New Student and Family Programs works collaboratively with departments across the University to recruit and select graduate and undergraduate staff members each year. We consistently strive to develop a cohesive, high performing staff that capitalizes on its diversity to provide quality programs and services to the entire Drexel University community.

All Orientation staff positions include on-campus housing and meals during Orientation sessions as part of the compensation package. See individual position descriptions for additional compensation and responsibilities specific to each position.

Orientation Leader (OL)

May 23 – November 3, 2013
Orientation Leaders serve as a crucial component of the New Student Orientation (NSO) Program and are charged with assisting new students and families with their academic, social, and cultural transition to the Drexel University community. In collaboration with other NSO staff members, OLs assist in assimilating new students and families in areas such as academic study, social support skills, and awareness of campus policies, activities, and services.

Orientation Assistant (OA)

May 23 – November 3, 2013
Orientation Assistants support the New Student Orientation (NSO) Program by serving as panelists, guides, and office assistants during NSO sessions in July and group leaders during New Student Days in September and Family Weekend in November. OAs are trained as Orientation Leaders in the event that an OL can no longer perform his/her duties.

MSHE Co-op

Part-Time: June 17 – September 20, 2013
Graduate students enrolled in Drexel University’s Master of Science in Higher Education (MSHE) graduate program have the opportunity to complete their co-op requirements with the New Student Orientation (NSO) Program. Students are able to design their own experience around specific research interests through the NSO Assessment. We typically see up to 6,000 participants (new students and families) throughout the summer and fall with an 85 – 90% participation rate in the assessment.

Populations for research include: First Year Students, Transfer Students, International Students, First Generation College Students, and Parents/Families.

Student Affairs Intern (NODA Intern)

May 20 – August 9, 2013
Student Affairs Interns coordinate several administrative aspects involved in the planning and execution of the New Student Orientation (NSO) and Fraternity and Sorority Recruitment programs. Graduate Interns supervise the Orientation Leaders and manage several major functional areas in the Office of Campus Engagement (OCE).

Orientation Coordinator (OC)

Orientation Coordinators serve in a leadership capacity on the New Student Orientation (NSO) staff and are charged with serving as mentors to Orientation Leaders (OLs) and Orientation Assistants (OAs) while coordinating several administrative aspects involved in the planning and execution of the NSO Program. OCs plan staff development and recognition, serve on an on-call duty rotation, and support the sustainability of the NSO Program.
