Student Life Awards 2013
Student Life Award nominations now open, due April 15
Join Student Affairs and the Undergraduate Student Government Association in recognizing and rewarding students who have made significant contributions to student life at Drexel University and in the community. Nominate deserving students, faculty or staff for one or more of the numerous awards (see below for awards list and descriptions)! Self-nominations are also accepted.
The nomination form opens March 20 and will close Monday, April 15, 2013 at 8am.
To Access the Online Nomination Form:
- Log-in to the DrexelOne Portal (https://one.drexel.edu) using your UserID and Password.
- Click the “Drexel” tab.
- Click “CollegiateLink” under the “Campus Involvement” menu header (left-hand side, under “Personal Information”).
- On the main CollegiateLink home page, click where it says “Click here to submit a nomination” (above the “Events and News” Flyerboard) to access the form and follow the instructions to submit a nomination(s).

*NOTE: The Dean of Student’s Leadership in Social Justice Award ($500 award) is presented to a full-time matriculated undergraduate student at Drexel University for outstanding achievements in advocacy and supporting Student Affairs' commitment to Social Justice.
To complete a nomination, please submit the following information directly to inclusion@drexel.edu:

- Please explain, in detail, how this nominee has contributed to the university’s efforts to promote social justice on campus.

2013 Student Life Awards – Awards List and Descriptions
Endowed Scholarship Awards
Alexander Van Rensselaer Service Award (scholarship award: amount up to $20,000)
This award is presented to a student of worthy character who demonstrates high commitment to co-curricular activities and academic pursuits.
Anthony and Antoinette T. Caneris Award (scholarship award: amount up to $5,000)
This award is presented to junior or senior students enrolled in any Drexel college or school, with preference and consideration for those who demonstrate a high commitment to academics while being actively involved with on-campus activities at the University.
Charles E. Etting Award (scholarship award: amount up to $2,500)
This award is presented to students of worthy character and capacity who have excelled extensively in student activities.
Dean J. Peterson Ryder Award for Seniors (scholarship award: amount up to $4,000)
Presented to seniors in engineering who are proficient in studies undertaken and who have participated in extracurricular activities.
Dean J. Peterson Ryder Award for Women Juniors (scholarship award: amount up to $8,000)
This award is presented to women juniors who are proficient in studies undertaken and who have participated in extracurricular activities.
Marilyn A. Burshtin Memorial Award (scholarship award: amount up to $5,000)
This award is presented to a woman in the College of Engineering (400 series, or 100, 101, 105, 115, 121, 125, 135 or 141 codes and Computer Science Majors) or the College of Arts and Sciences (biology, chemistry, mathematics, physics or unified science) majors who has participated extensively in student activities and has a GPA of 3.0, but exceptions may be made if an individual has made exceptional contributions to student activities and/or campus life.
The Erica Halpern Community Service Award (scholarship award: amount up to $2,500)
This award is presented to a student who actively participates in community service initiatives. To be considered for this award, applicants must exhibit dedication to community service and sincere and genuine concern for the University City community and its residents. The recipient must be in good academic standing demonstrated by a minimum 3.0 grade point average. This award includes a scholarship up to $2,500.
Student Affairs - Departmental Awards
Dr. Jacquelyn West-Ford Award for Humanitarianism (scholarship award)
This award is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Jacquelyn West-Ford (January 23, 1960-September 6, 2007), Senior Associate Dean of Students, in recognition of a Drexel University undergraduate student who demonstrates exceptional leadership in cultivating religious and spiritual life on campus.
Dean's Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service for Graduating Seniors (scholarship award)
Presented to a graduating senior for outstanding leadership and service to Drexel University's campus life and surrounding community, while maintaining academic excellence exhibited by a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
Ann H. Wilson Heinl Service for Commuter Students Award
This award is presented to any undergraduate or graduate Drexel student living off-campus who has made significant contributions to the quality of life for Drexel University undergraduate and graduate commuter, graduate or transfer students during the academic year. This student is dedicated to learning in and out of the classroom, and demonstrates creativity and determination in their work or co-curricular activities towards the goal of enhancing the commuter, graduate, and/or transfer student community.
Ian L. Alexander Outstanding Commuter Student Award
This award is presented to any Drexel undergraduate or graduate student living off-campus beyond their first year at Drexel who has made significant contributions to the Drexel and/or local community. This student exhibits a positive outlook on life and is enthusiastic about their work at Drexel and/or in the community. In addition to their campus/community engagement, this student displays a strong commitment to academic achievement, and is a proud member of the commuter, graduate, and/or transfer student community at Drexel.
New Student Organization of the Year
This award is presented to a recognized student organization that has been active for less than one year and whose achievements illustrate a dedication to the campus community and toward making a difference in the lives of Drexel students.
Outstanding Contribution to International Understanding Award
This award is presented to an international student who has contributed to the international student advocacy and intercultural awareness on campus through participation in international programming, as well as, who has taken an active interest in the International Student and Scholars Services' programs and initiatives.
Outstanding Student Organization Program Award
This award is presented to a recognized student organization that sponsored a creative and well-publicized event that made an impact on Drexel's campus.
Rising Leader of the Year Award
This award is presented to an undergraduate student considered an emerging leader who has attended Drexel University for less than two years, has exemplified a dedicated involvement and commitment to enhancing campus life. The recipient must be in good academic standing demonstrated by a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
Student Leader of the Year
This award is presented to an undergraduate student who has shown outstanding leadership and vision, and has exemplified a dedicated involvement and commitment to making a difference in the lives of Drexel students. The recipient must be in good academic standing demonstrated by a minimum 2.5 grade point average.
Student Organization Advisor of the Year Award
This award is presented to a recognized student organization advisor who has served as an outstanding mentor impacting the growth and development of student leaders and members, and supported organizational activities and accomplishments.
Student Organization of the Year
This award is presented to a recognized student organization that has shown outstanding commitment to the organization goals, made an impact in the Drexel community, and has excelled in program planning, financial management, and leadership development of members.
Student Organization Outstanding Service Award
This award is presented to a recognized student organization that has made outstanding contributions through community service or social action to Drexel University and/or the surrounding Philadelphia community.
