The Hearing Board Format

  1. Explain that the hearing is recorded in event of an appeal
  2. Introduce all parties including witnesses and advisors
    • Witnesses are excused
  3. Remind all parties about privacy of conduct proceedings
  4. Ask if complainant challenges the objectivity of any Board member(s)
  5. Ask if respondent challenges the objectivity of any Board member(s)
  6. Read statement of truth to both parties
    • Do you swear or affirm that the testimony you are about to give is true?
    • Do you understand that giving false testimony in a conduct hearing could subject you to disciplinary action?
  7. The Chair (student) states the charge(s)
  8. Ask the complainant to proceed with presentation of case
  9. Allow for questions of the complainant 
    • Complainant will receive questions from the Board
    • Complainant will receive respondent's questions
    • Witnesses may be called and receive questions from all parties
  10. Depending upon the length of the hearing, the Chair may call a brief recess in the hearing
  11. Ask the respondent to proceed with presentation of case
  12. Allow for questions of the respondent
    • Respondent will receive questions from the Board
    • Respondent will receive complainant's questions
    • Witnesses may be called and receive questions from all parties
  13. Closing statement by the complainant (2 minutes)
  14. Closing statement by the respondent (2 minutes)
  15. Ask the board if anyone has any final questions
  16. Adjourn hearing and inform the parties they will be notified of the Board’s decision within two weeks
