State Grants and Scholarships
Pennsylvania State Grant Program
The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) sponsors a need-based state grant program for undergraduate Pennsylvania residents who will be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more credit hours per semester). Students in online programs are not eligible for Pennsylvania State Grants. All Pennsylvania residents applying for financial aid from Drexel University are required to apply for a Pennsylvania State Grant. If a student is eligible to apply for this grant and does not do so, the SRC/Financial Aid Office will not substitute Drexel funds for the computed state grant amount. Those interested in receiving consideration for the Pennsylvania State Grant must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before May 1. The award may appear as an estimate, but the real notification (and grant amount that will count toward your aid package) will be sent from PHEAA. Be sure to confirm that the award has been made for Drexel.
Continuing Students
Effective for the 2011–12 academic year, PHEAA will disburse State Grant funding during classroom terms for up to five years of study. Due to this change, funding will no longer be credited during co-op terms of attendance. For most students, the total amount of funding received throughout your education will not be impacted; however, some students will see a change in the annual award amount offered year to year. A conditional award from PHEAA may not reflect your accurate academic plan for the upcoming year. Drexel's financial aid office will review your eligibility for quarterly funds and adjust your award accordingly.
To be considered for Summer State Grant funding, students who expect to register for courses during the summer quarter will be required to complete the online Summer Grant application by August 15, 2012. The application can be found via your PHEAA Account Access mailbox. For additional information about the State Grant program, please visit the PHEAA website or contact 1-800-692-7392 to speak with a customer service representative.
Incoming Students
Pennsylvania State Grant funds (PHEAA) are disbursed to eligible undergraduate students during classroom terms of attendance for up to 12 quarters over five academic years. In order to be considered for Summer State Grant funding each year, students who intend to register for summer quarter coursework are required to complete the Summer State Grant application online on the PHEAA website each year.
For more information, visit PHEAA website or contact a customer service representative at 1-800-692-7392.
Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation (PHEF) and Independence Blue Cross (IBC) Scholarships for Nurses
The College of Nursing and Health Professions receives grants from PHEF and IBC to assist with tuition for nursing students in the undergraduate (juniors and seniors), graduate, and doctoral programs. Awards are based on academic standing and financial need and are usually awarded in the fall of each year. FAFSA forms must be submitted for a student to be considered for one of these scholarships.
State Scholarship Programs
Some students from outside of Pennsylvania may receive funds from their state scholarship programs that can be used at Drexel University. Currently, students living in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ohio, Rhode Island, Vermont, and West Virginia may use their state scholarships at Drexel University. To apply for a state scholarship, contact your state financial aid agency (call 1-800-433-3243 to get the telephone number and address of your state agency) for program requirements and application procedures. When you receive an eligibility notice from your state program, you should submit it to the Drexel University SRC/Financial Aid Office.
