B.S. in Elementary Education
Part-Time Study: On-Campus and Online
For students interested in a teaching profession who have earned some college level credit but cannot commit to full-time study, Drexel’s Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education provides convenient and flexible options for part-time study.*
Online Blended Program
As one of the leading providers of distance learning, Drexel’s accredited online B.S. in Education provides students with a high level of academic and technological support. Drexel’s blended completion program offers a unique community of like-minded peers and the same, accredited curricula as traditional campus programs on a flexible, online and on-site schedule.
Part-Time Evening Program
For students who are balancing the responsibilities of work and family life, the School of Education offers classes in the evenings that lead to teacher certification.
Students seeking recommendation for a PA Instructional I Teaching Certificate upon graduation must arrange for the extensive, school-based field experiences that take place during the regular school day:
- 150 hours of classroom-based, pre-student teaching activities and observations during the regular school day
- Full-time, five day a week, 12-week student teaching experience
Non-Field Experience Program
Students who are unable to arrange for the time to participate in the above school-based field experiences cannot be recommended for a teaching certificate upon completion of their study. Enrollment in a non-field experience version of the Professional Studies in Instruction course provides professional electives in lieu of student teaching that are selected in consultation with the student’s program advisor.
Several courses in the non-teacher certification track of the evening B.S. in Education program also require some level of in-school observations, although they are much less intensive than the time commitment required by students pursuing teacher certification.
* Please note that middle-level (grades 4-8) certifications are only available to full-time students in the B.S. in Education program.
