MS in Sport Coaching Leadership
About the Program
The Master of Science in Sport Coaching Leadership is offered as a two year, part-time program. The program is offered fully online in order to meet the needs of a diverse population, including current coaches interested in furthering their leadership skills and coaching knowledge.
Youth, Scholastic, Club, Collegiate, Olympic and Professional Focus
Coaches at any level will benefit from this program and its associated courses. In fact, we have identified this to be a benefit of the program. Our students are able to network and learn from one another given their diverse backgrounds, sports coached, and level of play each has been involved in as an athlete, coach, and/or administrator in sport.
Each student in the graduate program for Sport Coaching Leadership will complete an international residency for 7-9 days. Currently this program is offered in June of each year and students participate in the first year of their plan of study. The goal of this residency program is to bring students together to learn in an intensive format. For more information on our international residency program, please view the program information.
Beginning in the Fall 2017 quarter, students may elect a sport-specific concentration. Concentrations are available in lacrosse and rowing. For those without an interest in those sports, a custom-designed concentration is available. Additional concentrations in basketball, volleyball, football, and sport-based youth development are planned for Fall 2018. Students interested in those concentrations may begin taking core courses under the guidance of the Program Manager and Director.
Coaches frequently cite hectic, constantly changing schedules as a barrier to academic access and success. With one residency week as the only synchronous meeting time, students benefit from expert instruction in an online environment. Students will learn from engaging experts in their field without having to modify work schedules.
The MS in Sport Coaching Leadership prepares its graduates for positions in all levels of coaching. Graduates of the program will be uniquely qualified for coaching and leadership positions such as:
