MS in Mathematics Learning and Teaching
The MS in Mathematics Learning and Teaching is facilitated by a staff of dedicated teachers, teacher educators, mathematicians and school administrators with years of experience in mathematics education.
Developing Mathematics Content Experience and Expertise
The MS in Mathematics Learning and Teaching provides opportunities to think deeply about middle and secondary math content: organizing, extending, and generalizing it with an emphasis on developmental trajectories.
Analysis of Student Thinking
The majority of the second year of the program focuses on using student thinking as a resource for instructional decision making, developing activities, creating technology-oriented lessons, and completing action research projects.
Locations and Delivery Options
The MS in Mathematics Learning and Teaching is offered entirely online.
Drexel University has over two decades of experience delivering online education and is the winner of the 2010 Sloan-C Award for Excellence in Institution-Wide Online Education. Drexel University is committed to providing quality, accredited programs online with no fixed class hours. Drexel online programs offer the very same faculty, curriculum, and degree as Drexel's distinguished on-campus programs.
At Drexel, we recognize the significance of pursuing an advanced degree and the challenges of completing a rigorous academic program. Our advisors work individually with students to establish long-term goals, a plan of study and a schedule for graduation.
Academic advisors assist students with issues such as program requirements, course selection, time management, professional development, etiquette and communication skills. Advisors can also direct students to appropriate contacts for questions regarding financial aid, career placement and other university services.

During their time in the MS in Mathematics Learning and Teaching program, students focus on the following:
- Developing a deeper understanding of mathematics (both within and across content areas)
- Understanding and implementing the mathematical practices in teaching and learning
- Developing experience and competence in placing student thinking, task selection and formative/summative assessment at the center of teaching and instructional decision making
- Effectively using of technology in mathematics instruction
- Developing strategies for effective lesson planning, collaboration and continued professional growth
The MS in Mathematics Learning and Teaching degree enables current teachers of mathematics for grades 4–12 to improve their expertise and broaden their skills.
The program also prepares participants to develop and implement curriculum in elementary, middle, and high schools.
By the end of the program, teachers have acquired the skills necessary to make creative contributions to the field, often presenting at conferences and being published in educational journals.
Graduates advance in or enter roles as teachers, curriculum coordinators, instructional team leaders or staff development presenters.
