Pennsylvania ​Graduate ​Intern ​Teaching ​Certification

The Pennsylvania ​Graduate Intern ​Teaching ​Certification ​Program ​at ​Drexel University’s ​School ​of ​Education ​is ​designed ​exclusively ​for ​candidates ​who ​hold ​a bachelor’s ​degree ​and ​desire ​to ​work ​as ​a ​Pennsylvania ​classroom ​teacher ​in ​an ​area closely ​aligned ​to ​their ​degree ​area ​while ​simultaneously ​taking ​graduate course ​work coursework to ​become ​fully ​certified ​with ​the ​Pennsylvania ​Instructional ​I ​Teaching Certificate, ​e.g., ​a ​Biology ​degree ​for ​biology ​certification, ​an ​Engineering ​degree ​for mathematics ​or ​physics ​certification, ​etc. ​Most ​degrees ​permit ​a ​candidate ​to ​pursue Pennsylvania ​Intern ​Teaching ​Certification ​in ​the ​area ​of ​PreKindergarten ​– ​Grade ​4 (PreK-4) ​certification and secondary education.

The Graduate ​PA Intern ​Teaching ​Certification ​Program ​is ​not ​appropriate ​for ​students ​who cannot ​teach ​within ​a ​Pennsylvania ​school ​or ​who ​reside ​overseas. Those students should pursue certification through the School of Education's Teacher Certification program.

Intern​ ​Certification​ ​Program​ Eligibility​ ​and Requirements

In ​order ​to ​be ​eligible ​for ​the ​Graduate ​PA ​Intern ​Teaching ​Certification ​Program, ​candidates must ​have ​an ​earned ​baccalaureate ​degree ​in ​a ​related ​field ​to ​their ​desired ​area ​of ​PA Intern ​Teaching ​Certification, ​a ​minimum ​3.0 ​GPA ​and ​be ​able ​to ​pass ​the ​Praxis ​II ​Content Exam(s) ​required ​for ​PA ​certification ​for ​their ​desired ​certification ​area.

There ​are ​rules ​and ​conditions ​set ​forward ​by ​the ​PA ​Department ​of ​Education ​(PDE) ​for maintaining ​eligibility ​for ​PA ​Intern ​Teaching ​Certification, ​including ​continuous ​enrollment ​in an ​approved ​teacher ​education ​program ​once ​a ​PA ​teaching ​certificate ​is ​issued.
