Certificate in Adult Education

Research indicates that adult learners tend to solve problems in a real-world context. The online, graduate Certificate in Adult Education helps illustrate how they best learn, and prepares adult educators to most effectively design, develop and deliver programs to these students. The program utilizes authentic approaches to address and solve problems, including a practicum in an adult education setting.

The Adult Education Certificate provides students opportunities to pursue career interests in fields such as education, business, government, and health care through relevant courses and fieldwork. The certificate program is an option for individuals whose career interests in adult education may not require a master’s degree. The program may be taken solely as a post-baccalaureate certificate or to fulfill elective credit in other School of Education programs, such as the master's programs in Higher Education and Teaching, Learning and Curriculum.

Upon completion of the Adult Education Certificate program, students will be able to:

  • Develop curricular and instructional strategies focused on the unique needs of adult learners
  • Assume a leadership role within an adult education environment
  • Understand emerging trends in life-long learning

The Adult Education Certificate offers six courses totaling 18 credits.
