"My Co-Op experience has opened doors for me in the field of Information Technology by teaching me professionalism, corporate etiquette, small talk, & business communication. The Gradate Co-op Program offered by Drexel is unbeatable compared to the 12 week internship offered by other universities. In comparison to my friends at neighboring universities, I have learned more and this learning has been practical."

An Interview with Swathi and Leonora regarding the graduate co-op program at CHOP

Swathi Jagannath
MS CHOP-IS Innovation Excellence Program Co-op Student

1) What career skills have you acquired on your Co-op?

I learned a lot of technical skills that I was able to apply to use new software. Also, I learned time management and meeting management skills that helped me successfully meet my deliverables.

2) Has your Co-op helped you decide your future career goals?

Sure co-op has helped me narrow my career goals. I don’t want to do anything related to programming. I now know what it means to be a Systems Analyst. Going to school alone would not have helped me.

3) What 3 tips would you suggest for other Graduate Students considering Graduate Co-op?

Ask many questions during the interview process.

Choose an employer who has a track of record of growing and developing their staff.

Interact with people & build a network.

Leonora Miller
Manager, IS Business Operations

1) Why have you hired Graduate Co-op Students?

During their interview, their articulated that their educational background along with their skill set would support the business need for our strategic projects.
Would you recommend Graduate Co-op Students to other employers?
Yes.  The graduate students have demonstrated a willingness to learn; possess a great business ethic and have embraced our projects.

2) Do you consider hiring Graduate Co-op Students as a pipeline to future full-time hires?

Yes.  Students who have proven themselves during their co-op assignment by applying their education along with effectively utilizing our tools, adapting to our work culture and who have an ability to work with others would be a great asset to our department.
