Safety Training

Laboratory safety training must be completed by all faculty, staff, and students involved in a biosafety protocol submitted for UBSC approval. Because the principal investigator is responsible for all activities associated with a project, the principal investigator must complete all relevant safety training. Training must be completed annually. Online training includes:

  • Bloodborne Pathogen and Lab Safety Training – Required annually for all personnel.
  • Recombinant DNA (rDNA) Training – Required only if the study involves the generation or use of rDNA.
  • Biohazard Shipping Training – Required if materials will be shipped outside the institution (not required for materials shipped to you).

To obtain training, click on the “Environmental Health and Safety Training” link under “Online Safety Training.”

Completion dates for all required training are recorded in section 4 of the General Biohazard Form (Form A). Please provide the full date (i.e., mm-dd-yy). Refer to the Submitting a Biosafety Protocol page for more information about forms to be completed.
