Update: The Effect of a Government Shutdown on Research Funding
We have received the following information regarding federal electronic proposal submissions in light of the October 1, 2013 shutdown of the federal government:
- NSF FastLane proposal preparation and submission will be unavailable during the shutdown. Once normal operations resume, NSF will issue guidance regarding any funding opportunities that have a deadline or target date that occurs during the government shutdown. All panels scheduled to occur during the shutdown will be cancelled and will likely be rescheduled to a later date. No new funding opportunities (program descriptions, announcements or solicitations) will be issued.
- Grants.gov will remain in an operational status, but with reduced federal support staff presence.
- NIH eRA Commons will not be accessible during the funding lapse. Though Grants.gov will be open and can accept electronic proposals, applicants are strongly encouraged not to submit paper or electronic grant applications to NIH during the period of the lapse. The inoperability of Commons and lack of technical support will not enable confirmation of successful submissions.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as we learn more.
