Brace for Impact

October 23, 2018

Hey everybody! It’s Alex, Nate, and Ambeisa, and this week on My Rec Life we’re participating in Drexel’s Impact group exercise class. Impact is “small group training, designed to diversify your workout, increase morale AND have fun.” Joining us today are some of Drexel’s pro-staff members, Ava Kwasnieski and Scott Walker. None of the students have participated in a group Impact training session before, but the pro-staff members participate in the class regularly. Let’s see who can tough it out!

Nate here! Just finished Impact, somehow, and I AM DEAD–in the best way possible of course. We did two different exercise circuits, two times each, and even though it was only 45 minutes, I don’t think I could have lasted another second. When I first started, it wasn’t TOO bad, but by the time the first circuit was wrapping up I knew I was in for it. I held up pretty well, but I could feel myself getting more and more tired with each exercise. The pro-staff members did amazing, and were encouraging throughout. Between them and our instructor, Carmen Del Mastro (who is also a personal trainer at Drexel), I was able to finish the class and have a great time!

Ambeisa back with my thoughts and comments on Impact small group training. What a workout! When I first walked upstairs I was greeted with our instructor Carmen and about six other participants. Everyone was very friendly and introduced themselves, as we took one last sip of water before pairing up for an hour of circuit training. I started on the floor, crawling in the shape of a square on the ground next to Nate. Afterwards, we moved to planks, throwing the medicine ball at the wall, squats and lunges with weights, and more! Carmen kept time and gave some much needed encouragement as we finished strong!

I felt energized throughout the rest of my day after that workout. The following morning however; there will be stretching required! Although I am a little sore, I would do it again in a heartbeat! As someone who’s always on the go, this was the perfect workout for me. I felt like I used my hour at the gym efficiently, and doing the exercises in a small group setting kept the positive energy up. Impact is the perfect workout if you enjoy fast paced movements, only have an hour, and are looking to make a new friend at the gym!
