Stephen A. Guckin joined Drexel University in the Department of Public Safety in 2014. As the Minors Coordinator, he is responsible for ensuring compliance with state Child Protective Services Laws as well as University policies and procedures concerning minors on or off campus and associated with Drexel University. Additionally, Stephen provides a centralized source for communicating questions and answers concerning minors issues, serves as a liaison with the Office of General Counsel, Human Resources, other Drexel University divisions and departments, and external entities on issues of community involvement in minors programs. He also provides training on safe environment issues and mandated reporting of child abuse. Stephen is a member of the Threat Assessment Response Team to assist in emergencies involving child abuse and to prepare "after-action" memoranda for purposes of preserving relevant communications and witness information.
Prior to his arrival at Drexel, Stephen spent seven years working for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as a high school campus minister and theology instructor, and as a pastoral care associate at Immaculate Mary Nursing Home.
Stephen also served as a member of the Philadelphia Police Department from 1981 to 2007, retiring as a Lieutenant. During his career, he served in all areas of law enforcement, including uniformed patrol and supervision, Juvenile Investigations, Research and Planning, and Accident Investigations. Stephen spent many years in various units of the Education and Training Bureau and was responsible for the administration of both recruit and in-service training programs. Stephen holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services Degree from Thomas Edison Sate College of NJ and an Associate of Applied Science in Justice from Community College of Philadelphia.
