Dr. Donald N. Bersoff, professor and director of the law & psychology program, CoAS, presented the keynote address titled, “From Informed Consent to Collaborative Assessment, at the annual meeting of Trainers of School Psychology, Philadelphia, February 20, 2012.


Dr. Douglas Chute, Drexel University Professor & Stein Fellow Neuropsychology Biomedical Engineering, CoAS, was awarded the inaugural 2012 Outstanding Mentor's Award by the American Board of Professional Neuropsychology, for his impressive research and practice contributions to neuropsychology in the areas of head injury assessment and rehabilitation, microcomputer prosthetics in rehabilitation and neurochemistry of learning and memory, and for his extraordinary contributions in serving as a kind mentor to many young neuropsychologists.


Dr. Arthur M. Nezu, Ph.D., ABPP, Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, CoAS, has recently been appointed by the American Psychological Association (APA) to their Clinical Treatment Guideline Development Panel for Depressive Disorders Across the Lifespan. This is the first panel designated in keeping with the APA’s initiative to develop evidenced-based clinical treatment guidelines for the profession. This is the first time that APA has sought to develop recommendations for treatments of specific disorders and conditions.


Dr. Myrna Shure, research professor, psychology, CoAS, will present a workshop titled, “A Problem-Solving Approach to the Prevention of Early High-Risk Behaviors,” at the Educational Conference, sponsored by the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Health and Welfare Fund, Philadelphia, PA, March 16, 2012.


Dr. Kirk Heilbrun, professor and head, psychology, and Dr. Dave DeMatteo, assistant professor and co-director of the law-psychology program, departments of psychology and law, CoAS, received a $400.00 two-year renewal of funding for the Pennsylvania Mental Health and Justice Center of Excellence. Heilbrun is co-director and DeMatteo is senior consultant for the Center of Excellence.


Dr. James Herbert, psychology professor and associate dean, CoAS, was appointed associate editor of the Journal of Contextual Behavioral Science.


Steph Rabin, psychology graduate student, co-mentored by Drs. James Herbert and Evan Forman, psychology, CoAS, won a prestigious Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology (SSCP) Dissertation Award in the amount of $500 for her dissertation, "The Interaction of Therapist Experiential Avoidance and Extraneous Clinical Information in Predicting Therapist Preference for Exposure Treatment for OCD." Ms. Rabin will receive $500 to support her dissertation, a free membership to APS, and publication of her abstract in an upcoming issue of Clinical Science.

Dr. Ludo Scheffer, teaching professor, psychology, CoAS, and Dr. Debra Ruben, assistant professor, interior design, Westphal College, Media Arts & Design, were awarded a Drexel internal grant for community development and research to redevelop the Morton McMichael playground through a community action research process. Grant amount $22,000.00.


Dr. Brian P. Daly, assistant professor, psychology, CoAS, will present a paper titled "Collaborative training for school mental health services," at the National Association of School Psychologists conference, February 22, 2012.
