Office of the Provost Newsletter April 2016
Letter from the Provost
After two quarters at Drexel University, it is clear that this continues to be a “university-on-the-move” Imagine all the changes since our last newsletter... the announcement of Schuylkill Yards, over 250 researchers at multiple Drexel Area of Research Excellence (DARE) and Market-Driven Academic Program Ventures (MPV) information sessions, the submission of 41 DARE proposals spanning all schools and colleges, 17 initial MPV ideas, the introduction of the inaugural Dragon’24, the $75 Million DOD Advanced Manufacturing award, and, of course, Zack Spiker, our new Men’s Basketball coach. In addition, the news items in this issue of our newsletter share even more details with respect to our Graduate College, the exciting Drexel SpaceX Hyperloop team, the Adjunct Faculty Initiative, and general information from our vibrant schools and colleges. I would like to thank Ms. Donna McVicker in our office for her continuing service as Editor of the newsletter. Have a productive Spring quarter!

A Message from the Editor
Welcome to the Spring 2016 Office of the Provost Newsletter. In this issue, I am pleased to bring your attention to a new addition: under the College and School News section, you will begin to enjoy news from The Graduate College in its two debut articles - “New Suite, New Initiatives” and “Celebrating Graduate Education: Graduate Student Excellence Awards.” These two articles will join numerous other exciting updates in the Adjunct Bulletin section; a Student Spotlight from the College of Engineering and two from Westphal College of Media Arts & Design; recent initiatives, accolades and upcoming events in our colleges and schools; and, updates from the Office of the Provost administrative offices. Thank you to the many writers, acknowledged within, for your wonderful contributions.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce a new member to the Office of the Provost. Terrance Collins, class of 2018 majoring in Finance in LeBow’s Business Administration program, has joined the Office of the Provost as its first CO-OP student. He has worked as a sales associate at KicksUSA (JAKO Enterprises), as a Drexel Advising Office Assistant/Work Study student, and most recently Terrance had a Relocation/Facilities Support CO-OP with Comcast Corporation. Reporting to me, Terrance will be assisting with an array of Office of the Provost tasks that will include some strategic and data analytical aspects. Please stop by our office to meet Terrance in the days ahead.
In closing, I would like to thank those who have offered to volunteer with the 2016 Commencement stage party. As the date of this year’s graduation festivities quickly approaches, plans continue with the University-wide Commencement ceremony and its new venue at Citizens Bank Park. The office of Enrollment Management and Student Success is doing a magnificent job overseeing all of the many details that need to be addressed leading up to and during the actual day of the ceremony. We’re all very much looking forward to this memorable day.
Please send comments and questions pertaining to the Office of the Provost Newsletter or news items you would like to share with the Drexel University community to the attention of Donna McVicker, email@example.com, Editor.
