Raised in New York, Dr. Greenberg earned his bachelor's degree in English from Queens College of the City University of New York and his master's and doctoral degrees in English Language and Literature from The University of Michigan. During his tenure at Drexel, Dr. Greenberg has served as Professor of English, dean of undergraduate education, and founding dean of the Pennoni Honors College.  He also has served as interim dean of the School of Education, supervisor of the Drexel-School District of Philadelphia Partnership, and as director of graduate studies in the English Department.  Prior to joining Drexel, he taught at the University of Michigan and Saginaw Valley University.  He was also a Visiting Professor at Swarthmore College and a National Endowment for the Humanities Post-Doctoral Fellow at Princeton University.  His teaching at Drexel has been recognized with the Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Dr. Greenberg has published three books and more than 30 articles or chapters in books and delivered more than 80 invited presentations and keynote addresses on 18th and 19th century British literature, literature and technology, and literature and science.  He has chaired the executive committee of the Modern Language Association's Division of Literature and Science, and is a founder and past president of the Society for Literature, Science, and the Arts. 

For years Dr. Greenberg was review editor of Brown University's Modern Language Studies and serves on a number of editorial and executive boards, including those for Johns Hopkins University Press, the University of Michigan Press, Longman's Publishers, McGraw-Hill, and the Princeton Encyclopedia of Poetry and Poetics.  He has evaluated grants and educational programs for the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Science Foundation and has consulted for the National Film Board of Canada and for the president and provost of The New School.

Dr. Greenberg has been part of the Drexel community for 29 years. He has administered honors programs and the Pennoni Honors College for 13 years. He has led the development and implementation of innovative interdisciplinary academic programs, including building the Honors community in quality and size, and introducing the Drexel Cultural Passport, Visiting Scholars, the Great Works Symposia, and the University Writing Program. He established the Center for Civic Engagement and the Study Abroad program, while he provides academic oversight for the Co-op 101 course. Dr. Greenberg also developed the online magazine The Smart Set from Drexel University (http://www.thesmartset.com), and together with University Relations, "The Drexel InterView."

Dr. Greenberg has been a Trustee for eleven years and Vice President of the Board of Trustees at Germantown Academy, where he also chaired the Trustees’ Education Committee.  He serves on the Ambassadors Board of the Science Leadership Academy (a Philadelphia magnet high school) and has served on the Board of Directors of the Pennypack Ecological Restoration Trust.
