Sajjan Mehta Wins Goldwater Scholarship
March 30, 2011 — Physics Junior Sajjan S. Mehta has achieved national distinction as a recipient of the prestigious Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. Goldwater Scholars have very impressive academic qualifications. Sajjan plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Theoretical Physics conducting research in particle cosmology and mathematical physics while teaching at the University level.
The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was established by Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry M. Goldwater, who served his country for 56 years as a soldier and statesman, including 30 years of service in the U.S. Senate. The program was designed to foster and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering. In awarding scholarships, the Foundation Board of Trustees considered the nominee's field of study and career objectives and the extent to which that individual has the commitment and potential to make a significant contribution to his or her field.
