2009-2010 CEO Certificates Now Available For Pick-up:

NOTE: Students who earned CEO certification for 2009-2010 can pick up their awards from the Office of Campus Activities anytime.  The certificates will be available anytime between the hours of 8am-7pm, Monday-Friday.  The OCA is located in the SORC (Student Organization Resource Center), which is on the lower level of the Creese Student Center, past the Commuter Lounge and the GSDC.  The awards will be available for pick-up throughout the Winter 2010 Term.  If you are having trouble getting to campus within the designated hours, we can make arrangements to ship your certificates to you (if necessary, on an individual basis) – please send an email to ceo@drexel.edu to make arrangements, if necessary. Drexel’s LeBow College of Business will host Ron Williams, chairman of Aetna Inc. for a presentation on “The Importance of Values-Driven Leadership”. Williams has sought to make a positive impact on health care in America by serving as a catalyst for change. Joining Aetna in 2001, Williams has focused on creating innovation in the industry, helping make possible new levels of transparency in the health care system. He was named CEO in February 2006 and chairman of the board in October 2006. Williams serves on the board of directors of the Boeing Company and American Express Company. He also serves on the board of trustees for the Connecticut Science Center. In January 2010, he co-chaired the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting in Davos, Switzerland. Williams is a graduate of Roosevelt University and holds an M.S. in Management from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Response Ability® is a reality-style educational video program that brings viewers to understand how group dynamics can prevent people from taking action to stop dangerous or unhealthy behaviors. It is the first step in developing the skills to successfully intervene when people witness actions that they know are wrong.  While there are all kinds of problematic behaviors with bystanders, this program is out to impact behaviors such as hazing, drug and alcohol abuse, sexual abuse/assault, eating disorders, homophobia, racism, sexism...and more!

Everyone is encouraged to come and refresh proper manners during a business dinner and sample the delicious food that Gian Carlo Carattini, the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia's Senior Catering Manager from the Hyatt at Penn’s Landing, has selected. The evening includes appetizers and a three-course meal featuring a delicious dessert.  During dinner, Carattini will discuss proper etiquette at the dinner table and will also teach the best practices of business etiquette including writing business letters, addressing business leaders and dignitaries and the generally accepted protocols and customs for meeting business professionals of different cultures and backgrounds.  This workshop is free for ALPFA members.  Members must give a $10 deposit prior to the event to secure space.  The deposit is refundable when their seat is claimed at the event.  The cost for non-ALPFA members is $10 and for Drexel staff is $15.  Fees are non-refundable.  Space is very limited.  To secure a spot at this workshop, email ALPFA@drexel.edu.

Mr. Johnny Earle, also known as Johnny Cupcakes, will tell the story of how he turned a simple joke into a multi-million dollar business using nontraditional methods. Starting his clothing brand business at the age of 19 in 2001, Johnny developed his company without a business plan, start-up loans, investors or even conventional advertising. Johnny has managed to launch one of the most recognized t-shirt brands in the United States, with locations in Boston, Los Angeles and London.  The clothing line uses cupcakes as the prominent design motif of its merchandise, often replacing iconic symbols with cupcakes. The Johnny Cupcakes line includes t-shirts, shorts, sweaters, jewelry, undergarments, and pins. The brand's insignia is a skull and crossbones, with a cupcake silhouette replacing the skull. Johnny will give an interactive lecture on how he built and managed his brand to grow it into what it is today. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with light refreshments and food. At 6:30 p.m., the panelists and moderator(s) will answer questions that the attendees have in regards to some specific topics. Following the formal Q&A discussion, the students and alumni panelists will be divided into groups according to profession or field of study, giving students an opportunity to ask questions and network with alumni who are working in their desired field, such as business, engineering, healthcare, etc. After these "breakout sessions" revolving around specific fields or industries, students will be able to have their résumé critiqued by experienced alumni and staff. With both the formal panel discussion and the breakout discussions, junior and senior students will be able to learn more about their career and networking opportunities, as well as learn some valuable insight about life after graduation from alumni who have recent experience outside of Drexel. The panelists and alumni in attendance will have the opportunity to network with current students before and after the panel discussion. All alumni are encouraged to attend to share their Drexel experiences with students, as well as meet and connect with other alumni in attendance.
