Entrepreneurial Skills Workshop: Markets and Niches Do Not Matter – But Here are the 5 Things That Do

Sponsored by: The Laurence A. Baiada Center for Entrepreneurship
Tuesday, January 12, 2010

The sobering statistics are: 1) 94% of Companies never get to $1 million in annual revenue, 2) You have a 1 in 250 chance in getting to $10 million, 3) You have a 50% chance of being in existence in 4 years, 4) Less than 10% get acquired as an Exit Strategy. Entrepreneurs often fall into the trap of building a better mousetrap. The truth is there are plenty of people improving the mousetrap. There isn't a market in the world that doesn't have competition, or if it does not exist now, it will very soon. Markets and niches are not enough to ensure your success. Attend this workshop to discuss the other areas where organizations compete and factors that will determine your financial success or failure. Learn about the “Pyramid of Organizational Development”, its implications for entrepreneurs and how the Pyramid supports the 7 Stages of Organizational Growth.

Student Conference on Global Challenges: WATER
Friday, February 26, 2010
All Day Conference
Behrakis Hall Grand Hall, Creese Student Center
Most of us don't think about water; we turn on a tap and clean water flows readily. Yet for millions of people, water is a constant concern: Will the taps run? Will there be enough water? Will it be clean? Access to water is a global problem which affects essential areas such as health, the food supply, education and the development of local communities. Water is the source of life. Without clean water people get sick, children miss school, and the cycle of poverty is perpetuated. Millions die prematurely from water-related diseases. As water scarcity becomes more acute, the global water crisis could lead to violent conflicts. The complexity and gravity of this issue makes it a major challenge facing humanity. Let us take a look at this serious challenge from all perspectives – social, economic, scientific, political as well as cultural.
Keynote Speaker Bio: Keynote Address by Ms. Maude Barlow - She is an acknowledged leader in the international water justice movement, often called the “Al Gore of water.” She was one of the “1000 Women for Peace” nominated for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize. In the same year, she received the prestigious Lannon Cultural Freedom Fellowship as well as the Right Livelihood Award. Known as the “Alternative Nobel” and given by the Swedish Parliament, the Right Livelihood Award cited her ”exemplary and long-standing worldwide work for trade justice and the recognition of the fundamental right to water.”
