The C. & J. Nyheim Plasma Institute was created in 2002. Today NPI is the largest university-based research engineering center focused on plasma science and technology in the US.

NPI’s mission is to advance our understanding of plasma, and to develop and apply plasma-based solutions to major societal challenges in areas such as, but not limited to, energy, medicine & environmental remediation and control.
