Announcing the Division of Enrollment Management & Student Success, Randall C. Deike Appointed Senior Vice President

Dear Students, Faculty and Professional Staff:

I am pleased to announce the creation of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success, developed to better align our administrative structure in order to provide the optimal student experience as part of our commitment to the Student Lifecycle Management initiative. To lead this new division, we are fortunate to welcome Randall C. Deike, PhD, from New York University, who joined Drexel on September 1.

As senior vice president for enrollment management and student success, Randy will oversee key aspects of the Drexel student experience currently dispersed widely at the University. These include Enrollment Management; Drexel Central Student Financial and Registration Services; Academic Advising, Retention and Diversity; the Steinbright Career Development Center; Student Affairs; and Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness, which will have a dual reporting relationship to the Provost’s Office.

All the experiences that a student has with Drexel—from recruitment to admissions and financial aid; academic support to co-op; career services to student engagement; and co-curricular activities—must lead to the outcome of student satisfaction, which results in improved retention and graduation. These are the goals of Student Lifecycle Management. When it became clear that the initiative’s success depends on having a single locus of responsibility and leadership that is empowered to impact all key operations, I began to consult with trustees about expanding the enrollment management leadership position.

Senior Vice President Helen Bowman and I worked with the Huron Education consulting group and executive search firm Witt/Keifer to develop a comprehensive position profile and, just as important, to determine if there was a pool of candidates who could demonstrate the remarkably broad qualifications necessary. Randy Deike quickly became our top candidate because of his extensive accomplishments in each of the areas of leadership we sought, at three of the nation’s top 40 universities. Fortunately, he was as excited about the transformative opportunities at Drexel as we are.

Randy has been vice president of enrollment management at New York University since 2009, overseeing the offices for undergraduate admissions, financial aid and institutional research and program evaluation. He previously was vice president of enrollment at Case Western Reserve University, one of Drexel’s strategic benchmark universities, and spent 15 years at Penn State University, rising to associate vice provost of enrollment management while earning master’s and doctoral degrees. He began his career working in residential life at his undergraduate alma mater Juniata College, where he eventually became associate dean of students.

Randy has a long track record of service to higher education including national committees such as the National Association for College Admission Counseling’s Commission on the Use of Standardized Tests in Undergraduate Admission and the College Board’s Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century and Advanced Placement Higher Education Advisory Committee.

This exciting transformation focused on providing the services and support necessary for our students’ success will require the patience, flexibility and commitment of many employees and offices as we progress over the next year. I am confident that the creation of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success, and the leadership of Dr. Randy Deike, will significantly improve the student experience and position Drexel for success in the rapidly evolving higher education market.
