A University-wide Commencement on June 11, 2016

Jan. 21, 2016

Dear Members of the Drexel Community:

I hope that you are having a great start to the new year and to winter term. Drexel had a very successful 2015. I am confident that the year ahead will also be full of progress and achievement.

I am excited to share that this year we will hold a University-wide Commencement ceremony at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, June 11. Citizens Bank Park, the home of the Philadelphia Phillies, is the perfect venue to help us celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates as an entire University community. This much larger venue will also provide our graduates the opportunity to invite more family and friends to join in the celebration. If you are planning to graduate in June, this is an especially momentous occasion, as you will take part in the inaugural Commencement ceremony of what we hope will be many at Citizens Bank Park.

At the University-wide ceremony on June 11, I will have the honor and privilege of conferring Drexel degrees completed during this academic year. There will also be two days of college- and school-specific ceremonies, plus a doctoral hooding ceremony, held on June 9 and 10.

Ceremonies for the Kline School of Law and the Drexel College of Medicine will be held in May as is customary, although all graduates are also invited to attend the June 11 ceremony. The planning team will soon launch the Commencement website with full information including dates, times and venues for all ceremonies.

We have intensified our focus on student success and strengthening the Drexel community over the past year. For our incoming class, we introduced Fall Welcome Week, where new students engaged in activities and programs across campus and in Philadelphia. This new approach to orientation helped to lay a foundation for student success. In the same way, we want to re-envision our graduation experience by bringing the Drexel community together to honor the accomplishments of our graduates and celebrate them as our newest alumni.

I am very much looking forward to being a part of this wonderful celebration.

Sincerely,

John Fry
President
