Men's Lacrosse to Host Towson in Semifinals of CAA Tournament
April 28, 2014
Riding the momentum of a six-game winning streak, Drexel Men’s Lacrosse will enter the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament as the No. 2 seed and host the Towson Tigers in a semifinal match-up at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30.
The Dragons closed out regular-season play with an 11-8 victory at High Point over the weekend. Led by senior Ben McIntosh, a nominee for the sport’s national player of the year award, Drexel has posted a 10-4 overall record and a 4-1 mark in conference games.
Drexel’s lone loss in CAA play came to top-seeded Hofstra in the conference opener. Since then the Dragons have reeled off six wins in a row, including four over conference foes. If Drexel wins, the Dragons could get another shot at the Pride in the CAA Championship game on May 3, if Hofstra also defeats its semifinal opponent, Delaware, on Wednesday.
McIntosh and fellow senior Nick Trizano lead a potent offense for the Dragons that ranked tops in the CAA this season. The Dragons have also acquitted themselves well on the other end of the field, as sophomore Will Gabrielsen leads the conference in saves and junior midfielder Nick Saputo tops the conference in picking up ground balls.
Drexel defeated Towson 13-7 a week ago in the teams’ regular-season meeting behind a five-goal performance by rookie Cole Shafer.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Vidas Athletic Complex at 43rd and Powelton Ave. For ticket information visit: www.drexeltickets.com or call 1-866-4-DREXEL.
