June 19, 2008
What: The annual outdoor three-day music festival POPPED! will come to Drexel University’s campus on Saturday. The festival will feature headliners Vampire Weekend, Gogol Bordello and Mates of State. Other acts include: The Ting Tings, Crystal Castles, Mr. Lif and Hoots and Hellmouth of Drexel University’s student-run record label MAD Dragon Records.
Who: Drexel University students enrolled in the music industry program at Drexel helped organize and promote the festival as part of their concert promotions class. More than 40 Drexel students volunteered their time.
The Festival will have a focus on being “green” and will educate concert-goers on the importance of a sustainable lifestyle. Student volunteers will ensure that the festival maintains its green initiatives. POPPED! is dedicated to ridding the festival of water bottles and to using recycled paper for everything from tickets to sheet music. Vendors with interactive displays will educate concert-goers about sustainability issues.
Visuals: Bands performing to crowds of attendees… people singing along to their favorite tune… a variety of vendor tables including a table from Drexel’s MAD Dragon Records.
When: Saturday, June 21, 2008, from noon to 10 p.m.
Where: 33rd Street, between Market and Arch Streets
Background: The POPPED! Festival is an annual Philadelphia event. This year’s concert venues include Drexel, Trocadero and World Cafe Live. POPPED! will host globally recognized artists as well as breakthrough local artists, creating lineups each night with unique performances in a boutique setting.
