Drexel’s Student-Run MAD Dragon Records to Highlight Success with Concert of “Dragon” Artists
February 7, 2008
What: After signing its seventh artist, Drexel University’s student-run record label MAD Dragon Records will celebrate its success with a concert on February 8 featuring some of its most popular acts. The Redwalls, a band that recently appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” will be among the roster of artists performing at the show.
Who: The Redwalls: recently named a MySpace Featured Artist of the Week, the band’s Web site has over 400,000 hits. After finishing a national tour with the Polyphonic Spree and Rooney, they are heading out on their own.
The Swimmers: this rising Philly act was recently noted in The Philadelphia Inquirer as one of eight Philadelphia bands to watch this spring. Their album, Fighting Trees, has been proclaimed by influential WXPN Program Director Bruce Warren to be “the best record not released in 2007.”
Matt Duke: a singer/songwriter who offers up an earnest blend of poignancy and emotion, accompanied by a gentle voice and acoustic melodies. After years of hard work and rigorous touring, Matt is being up-streamed through Mad Dragon’s partner Ryko Distribution.
Andrew Lipke: whose plaintive croon captivates and draws listeners into his folky, guitar-driven acoustic rock and deeply meaningful lyrics. His next album is due out in early 2008 on Mad Dragon Records.
The Takeover U.K.: this RykoDisc artist from Pittsburgh will be stuck in listeners’ heads for days. With their catchy tunes and upbeat melodies, their live show is winning fans.
When: Friday, February 8, 2008, beginning at 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Where: Drexel’s Mandell Theater (33rd and Chestnut Streets)
