The iSchool at Drexel to Present Award to Warren “Pete” Musser
November 30, 2007
Known throughout the world as one of the key players in the development of Greater Philadelphia's technology economy, Warren "Pete" Musser will be honored with the first Legend Award sponsored by The iSchool at Drexel, College of Information Science and Technology. David E. Fenske, iSchool dean, will present Musser with the award at the Eastern Technology Council's 15th annual Enterprise Awards Gala on December 6 at the Kimmel Center.
The Legend Award recognizes and honors individuals who have served in leadership positions at one or more companies during their careers. The honoree must possess a connection to the community, a history of personal accomplishments and an overall proven track record of success in a business environment.
In 1955, Musser founded the Lancaster Corporation (which later became Safeguard Scientifics) to invest in the development of emerging technology and life science companies in the region. Companies like Novell, QVC, Cambridge Technology Partners, Internet Capital Group, CompuCom Systems, Diamond Technology Partners and Safeguard Business Systems have benefited from his expertise and support. He was named Drexel Business Leader of the Year in 1993.
Beyond his contributions to local industry, Musser is known for his philanthropy. Among many other worthy causes, he has funded the Musser Blood Center and the Musser Choices Forum at the Franklin Institute. He received the William Penn Award in 1999 and has been named Citizen of the Year by both the Southeastern Pennsylvania United Way and the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter.
Fenske says of Musser, “A legend has impact far beyond the reaches of his accomplishments. A true legend has great influence in the region and beyond. I am delighted to be presenting Mr. Musser with the Legend Award in recognition of his accomplishments and the myriad lives he has improved.”
An Eastern Technology Council (ETC) member since 2002, the iSchool is most recently a Preferred Provider and Gold Patron.
The ETC serves leaders of more than 700 technology and life sciences companies by providing valuable contacts and capital, and information and education, through a wide variety of events, publications and innovative services. The ETC will honor regional companies and leaders at the gala.
