Silverstein is an expert in healthcare information technology and with difficulties in its design, implementation and use. He founded Drexel’s graduate certificate program in Healthcare Informatics, aimed at healthcare professionals as well as IT professionals, and is often quoted in the national media related to healthcare information technology mismanagement, safety risks, and misuse of medical information.
Drawing on his broad background in medicine and biomedical science, postdoctoral and faculty experience in Medical Informatics at Yale School of Medicine, as well as experience as the director of clinical informatics at the Christiana Care Health System in Delaware and as the director of scientific resources at Merck Research Laboratories, Silverstein has a deep understanding of effective electronic medical record management and communication. He imparts this knowledge on others through his teaching, a website at Drexel, and the healthcare blog “Health Care Renewal,” where he advocates for accountability, integrity, and transparency in leadership and governance of healthcare information technology.
