Student Conference on Global Challenges at Drexel Addresses Global Security

Drexel University’s Office of International Programs is hosting the 6th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges on March 1, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s conference centers on global security, focusing on subjects from cyber security to food scarcity to human security.

Drexel University extended its relationship with the historic Bachelors Barge Club as Drexel President John Fry, Senior Vice President Jim Tucker and Athletics Director Dr. Eric Zillmer joined Charles Cowan, president of Bachelors Barge Club, in signing an agreement for Drexel to fully manage the facility at Boathouse #6 on Kelly Drive.

With Philadelphia Flyers tickets on the line, students and faculty will compete to see whose eggs can survive a 28-foot drop into a landing zone as part of Drexel’s observation of National Engineers Week. The annual egg drop competition will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 20 on the third floor atrium of the Bossone Research Enterprise Center and is just one of a variety of events hosted by the College of Engineering throughout the week.

Study Looks at Why CEOs Get Merger Bonuses When Selling Cheaply

In about one in every four deals, the CEO of an acquired firm is awarded a merger bonus according to a recent study that examined more than 949 merger and acquisition offers that occurred in the U. S. between 1999 and 2009. The study also found that target shareholders received inferior premiums when their firms were sold while their CEOs received a merger bonus.
