Faculty and Staff Go For The Gold at Second Annual Employee Olympics

Employees of Drexel University will meet as competitors in pursuit of glory and in celebration of fitness and sport in the second annual Drexel Employee Olympics. Gold Medal Day is on Sept. 7 when participants will compete in 11 different sports held at Drexel’s athletics facilities. The games are presented by A Healthier U, Drexel’s university-wide wellness program, and the Drexel Recreation Center. 

The opening ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center with Dan Baker (voice of Drexel Men’s Basketball, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Eagles) serving as master of ceremonies. The gold medal games will commence at 3:30 p.m. at venues throughout campus.

The Drexel Recreation Center, at 33rd and Market St., will host finals in dodgeball, basketball, spinning, rock climbing and urban obstacle course. Buckley Court at the Armory will host table tennis. Drexel Green will be the venue for beach volleyball, across 33rd street at Buckley Recreational Field the soccer gold medal game will commence. Drexel Park will host the run/walk championship while Buckley Tennis Courts will be the site for tennis. The softball championship will be contested at the Vidas Athletic Complex on 43rd and Powelton Ave.

The Closing Ceremony and presentation of the gold medals will be held outside the Recreation Center on the Fitness Plaza at 5:15 p.m.

With its primary focus on physical activity, healthy nutrition and smoking cessation, A Healthier U increasingly integrates healthy behaviors into Drexel’s culture to help individuals stay healthy, and provide those with health risks the resources needed to reduce their chances of chronic illness or serious medical conditions in the future.
